Two Doors is located in one of Dubbo’s most important historical sandstone buildings, built in 1873 from Macquarie River sandstone. It was once the home of Dubbo’s first doctor, Walter Hugh Tibbits, a highly respected and energetic local citizen, Dr. Tibbits was warden at Holy Trinity Anglican Church.
After it was standing for a century, in 1973 major renovations took place to restore the entire building. The feature walls you see today were crafted from handmade, sun-dried bricks which were found in an outbuilding on the site. Other materials were gathered from local demolition sites to keep the renovations authentic. The floors are made of Mudgee stone and the outdoor courtyard is covered in thousands of reclaimed bricks.
